The IFC and our ILOs participated in the ReCAAP ISC 20th Anniversary Symposium on 13Mar 2026.
The Symposium featured two high-level panel discussions. The first examined emerging maritime threats and the future of ReCAAP ISC, highlighting risks such as cyber-attacks, GNSS spoofing, and the convergence of maritime crime with transnational organised networks. The second panel focused on multi-faceted approaches to combating piracy, stressing preparedness, maritime domain awareness, and the importance of trust-based information sharing.
Industry representatives from Teekay Tankers shared useful insights from the seafarers' perspective, and reaffirmed the need for risk assessments, and improvements to crew training and operational readiness. Law enforcement and naval leaders from UNODC, the Royal Navy, and IFC-IOR stressed preparedness, maritime domain awareness, and the importance of trust-based information sharing.
The IFC team also engaged shipping partners during the Symposium, strengthening ties with industry stakeholders and reinforcing the collective mission to safeguard Asia's vital sea lanes. The IFC extends its congratulations to ReCAAP ISC for hosting this milestone celebration and looks forward to continued collaboration with regional and global partners to keep our seas Safe and Secure for All.
