K-Marine Ship Management (KMSM) recently concluded a security drill in collaboration with the IFC. Besides regularly collaborating on security drills, KMSM has also been actively participating in the IFC's other initiatives, including the 8th MARISX and getting their ships to join in the Voluntary Community Reporting (VCR) scheme.
The drill simulated an unauthorized boarding scenario, where perpetrators attempted to board a ship transiting along the Singapore Strait. The timely reporting from the ship allowed the IFC to share crucial information with local authorities via the Indonesia Navy ILO to prompt necessary assistance to the distressed vessel. The exercise proved highly effective in enhancing the operational readiness of the ship's crew, who demonstrated their ability to react quickly and effectively.
Capt. Pradip Bhaumik, the Company Security Officer (CSO) of KMSM, shared his insights - "It was a great learningexperience for all of us. The crew learned effective coordination and clear communication during such realemergencies. Effective coordination and communication can make a significant difference in handling suchsituations."
In addition, Capt Prem Kumar Seethapathy, Ship Security Officer (SSO) commented "Security drill was carried out in a very realistic manner. It gave us a good opportunity to talk to IFC directly about the situation. This was an excellent and practical training session for us."
The IFC expresses gratitude to Capt. Pradip Bhaumik and his team for inviting the IFC to participate in the drill. The IFC looks forward to further collaboration with them in the future to enhance ship security in the region.
