Ship Security Drills 2026

Goodwood 240226

The IFC participated in a ship—to-shore security drill with Goodwood Ship Management to familiarise information-sharing protocols and strengthen coordinated response mechanisms during maritime security incidents. The exercise provided a valuable platform to validate first-contact reporting procedures and the application of company response checklists, ensuring timely and accurate information flow between the vessel, company, and the IFC.

The drill scenario simulated a piracy attack on board MT DHT Colt while transiting a piracy-prone area in the Indian Ocean. The exercise covered the escalation from suspicious approaches to armed boarding, crew retreat to the citadel, activation of the Ship Security Alert System (SSAS), and subsequent ship—to-shore coordination with the IFC. These developments enabled focused discussions on crisis communication, emergency response actions, and coordinated engagement with relevant maritime security stakeholders.

Our International Liaison Officers (ILOs) from India, Malaysia and Vietnam also participated, contributing valuable regional maritime security insights and operational perspectives. Their inputs supported Goodwood's crisis management team in assessing the evolving situation and reinforced a shared understanding of regional MARSEC considerations and response priorities.

The IFC extends its appreciation to Mr. Sanjeev Bhandari, Capt. Muneesh Saxena and the Goodwood Ship Management team for the opportunity to participate in this exercise. We look forward to continued collaboration with Goodwood and regional partners through the IFC to strengthen maritime security awareness and operational readiness.

Together, we can keep our seas Safe and Secure for All!
