The IFC team, together with our ILOs, were privileged to be hosted by Goodwood's Operations Manager, Capt. Muneesh and Assistant Fleet Manager, Mr. Aneet, for a ship visit onboard DHT Appaloosa at the anchorage.
The visit began with the ILOs providing professional MARSEC insights contextualized to their regional waters, which were useful notes for the crew as they navigate around the world. Thereafter, Capt. Muneesh provided a detailed ship tour starting from the aft of the ship, highlighting the anti-boarding measures (i.e. concertina wires and human-sized dummy) that were in place as advocated by the IFC. The tour continued to the upper deck and through the engine room along the way, Capt. Muneesh pointed out the compartments and equipment that perpetrators tended to access and steal.
Of note, Capt. Muneesh highlighted the challenge of denying boarding all together as perpetrators are highly skilled and they adapt quickly to circumvent anti-boarding measures. To mitigate, he shared the need to take actions to delay intrusion deeper into the ship.
The day ended inside the ship's citadel, as part of a live security drill. Experiencing the drill in-person gave us a much deeper appreciation for the conditions and immense challenges the crew face during emergencies.
We extend our sincere appreciation to the crew of DHT Appaloosa, DHT Holdings Inc. and Goodwood Ship Management for their warm hospitality.
Together, we can achieve Safe and Secure Seas for All.
