The Information Fusion Centre (IFC) co-organised the 47th Shared Awareness Meeting (SAM) on 20 February 2025, in partnership with the Singapore Shipping Association (SSA) and the Asian Shipowners' Association (ASA). The event attracted over 200 participants from the MARSEC and shipping community, including some overseas partners who participated virtually.
This SAM marked the first collaboration under the new leadership of MAJ Zix Toh, Head of the IFC's Shipping Engagement Branch, and Mr. Loh Chun How, Executive Director of SSA, who both delivered welcome remarks.
LT Muhammad Abqari Bin Haji Emran, the IFC's Brunei ILO, provided an update on the MARSEC situation in the IFC's area of interest, offering valuable insights into regional MARSEC incidents and trends. CDR Thomas Scalabre, Commanding Officer of the French MICA Centre, gave an overview and assessment of the MARSEC landscape in the Red Sea and Gulf of Guinea. Mr Thomas Timlen from Risk Intelligence discussed the evolving tactics of perpetrators involved in piracy and sea robbery, stressing the need for continuous adaptation and vigilance. Concluding the session, Mr Charlie Brown from the Allen Institute for Al and United Against Nuclear Iran highlighted the global rise of dark shipping activities and associated risks.
It was truly a day filled with meaningful discussions and candid sharing. The strong participation underscored the shared commitment and recognition of the importance of cooperation in enhancing maritime security. A big THANK YOU to all our partners all over the world for contributing to the success of the 47th SAM! Together we will keep our Seas Safe and Secure!
